Yamaha lower unit

I have a Yamaha 2004 F 115 with only 274 hrs on it something in the lower unit went array. Has anyone rebuilt the lower unit themselves, marine mech around here have told me they just replace the unit with new or reman Wonder just how hard is it ?
 
I have rebuilt many of these lower units because they are so damn expensive to replace here in Australia.
They are not a difficult unit to rebuild. And the yammi ones seem to come apart alot easier than any of the others...
