stripped threads in spark plug port

I have a BF50 which I treat very well. I can't believe that I have cross-threaded one of my spark plug ports just as I was preparing to run the motor up to take it out for the first time this year.

I didn't force anything as I realized what had happened when the plug changed angle and began to bind. I know I must now break down and go to the dealer.

Can anyone tell me what they will do to fix this and what it is liable to cost? I think I have damaged threads in the top third of the port.

Very sad....but there are worse things in life. Advice appreciated.

The dealer will probably try to retap the hole first. They most likely have a tap that is expandable and when they insert it, it is not touching the threads. Then they expand it and retap the hole (and cleanup the threads) basically from the inside to the outside. Thus, the metal fragments come out as it is tapping. If it is not too bad, that should be all they have to do.

They probably have some sort of minimum service charge to do this.
