merc.225 H.P. optimax oil alarm

I own a 225 h.p, merc. optimax and the oil alarm buzzer keeps going off even though there is plenty of oil in the reservoir. My technician is stumped

Check the cap on the reserve tank. Reserve tank = the large tank mounted in the boat.
