Need some help with a 1974 ch350-454. Heard a tapping sound or slight knocking sound so i took timing cover off and the cam gear is rubbing the timing cover. It is a rh with gear drive. I haven't a clue what is causing this?? The engine was running good at the time...
 
Never been inside a 454 but if it's like most V8 engines the camshaft is positioned by a retainer that is behind the timing gear. I suppose you might want to see if everything is in order with that.
