I recenty bought a 2003 F60tlrb outboard, runs great, but starter bendix disengages the instant motor starts to catch. Starter still spins and cranks ok, but will disengage several times until motor catches. Any ideas?

hi, follow this.
check the battery, if the battery is fine, then spray little bit wd40
if the problem still remain then you have to dismantle the starter motor to check.

Re: F60 bendix disengaging

The minute the engine fires and the engine is turning faster than the starter, it forces the gear on the starter to disengage. That's how it works. If the battery is weak, the starter might not be spinning fast enough, but that's the way the starter is designed.

Agreed, You do not have a starter problem as much as you have an engine starting performance problem. May be time for a major tune up.
