Have a nissan 40 will start an indle but when you raise throttle in or out of gear it makes a grinding sound and shuts down then its like the battery is dead motor will barely turn over i think its a 1987 model
 
40c the motor started at home when i got to river it started an idled fine when went to throttle up it made grinding noise and shut down tried to restart and it was like battery was weak barely turn over after a few minutes it crank back up this time i left it in neutral and throttle up it did same thing motor was not hot just put in water.
 
Is there a broken spring or other part in the recoil starter? Is the electric starter fully disengaging when you finish cranking?
