Hey guys. Have just dismantled the lower unit of my '75 Evinrude 25hp long shaft (25503B) to inspect the dog clutch (has been jumping). The dog and gears seem fine but the shift rod is bent...pretty sure it's supposed to be straight, right? Anyway, I went ahead and straightened it out using heat and mallet...any dramas doing this? Thought I'd just reassemble and see how she goes.
Just wondering though, are there supposed to be seals between the lower unit and gearcase extension, and between the gearcase extension and the exhaust housing? There was no obvious sign of any when I pulled it apart and I can't seem to find them on any parts diagrams or listings. But it just doesn't make sense to me that they would be '*****'. Any advice greatly appreciated.
