will a johnson 40 1979 (40R79E) crankcase be interchangeable with a 1960 40hp (rds22) Crankcase?

HI i currently have a johnson from 1979 (40R79E) and the crank case of it has corroded and a piston sleeve has cracked. I know someone who has a 1960 (rds 22) crankcase which seems in good condition. any idea if the crank case could be exchanged and wheater the bolts will match?

Not even close !!!!!!!!-----------------If those are the correct #'s-----------------No 40 HP listed in 79 !!

Thanks a lot for the reply. The 40R79E is what i have found written on it, so i supposed it was from a 1979. In fact i have found in hard to find any parts for that year as a 40hp. i will recheck to make sure the model number is correct. thanks for now
 
Crank cases are not interchangeable from one engine to another. They are machined together with the cylinder part.
You may however be 'lucky' to find two that matches.
