when I go by the manual turni

when I go by the manual turning the shift shaft and locking the prop in forward . I get forward and neutral but reverse hardly moves. I hear there is trade secret. Does anyone know? I am frustrated.

I always put that together with the lower unit and the shift handle in neutral.

Sometimes the shift cable has been adjusted improperly for various reasons, and it makes it difficult to put the lower unit on because the splines on the shift rods do not line up properly.

Adjusting the shift cable will solve that problem, but you may have to experiment in order to get it right. That means you might have to take the lower unit off a few times before you get it to work.
