I have a VOLVO 280 duo prop out drive with the AQ 260 engime, I'm currently running B5 props and it is slightly over propped. Is it possible to use type D4 props to achieve propper WOT
will these props fit?

You do not mention the size of the hull, nor the final drive ratio.
People get this wrong all of the time.
The fact that you can run 5's, may indicate several things:
  • Re-pitched props that were not re-marked
  • Smaller, light weight boat
  • Incorrect over-all ratio
None-the-less, your WOT RPM is of most importance (just as you would with a single prop drive). To over-burden your engine is asking for pre-mature failure, IMO.

If the ratio is correct, I'd drop down to a set of B-4's, and give them a try.
Again......., OEM spec'd WOT RPM being your primary goal.

The "D" series is a Diesel application.
Volvo recommends the B (aluminum) or C (SS) for this drive and gasoline engine.

I have a 26 FT Hourston with a final ratio of 1.95, boat weighs approx.6800 LBS.
I am getting 4000 RPM @ WOT I do realize that the "D" series props are for diesel
application But could I use them or do I need to stick with the type B series

OK..... for this hull, the 1.95:1 sounds correct!
However, your WOT RPM of 4k is too low. You'd best bring this up, by down sizing the prop set, IMO.
Make sure that your tachometer is accurate!

The answer to the question of "will they fit?", is yes..... they will mount up!
However, as suggested earlier:
The "D" series is a Diesel application.

Volvo Penta knows much more about this than I do.
My knoweldge is limited to this:
First off, the diesel final drive ratio may be taller (numerically lower).... 1.78:1, for example (depends on which diesel engine).
Secondly, the diesel engine WOT RPM will be much lower.
Therefore I cannot, and will not, recommend the "D" series for your application.

Do you still have the B5's and do you want to sell them?
