"Pete.... That seems to be a tough question lately. OMC, for years, has recommended the Champion spark plug QL77JC4, set at .040, but recently they have been equipping their engines with Champion QL78JC4 plugs, set at .030 . Personally, I prefer the QL77JC4 plugs and the .040 gap. I haven't been able to obtain a straight answer as to why they changed from a 77 to a 78 heat range and narrowed the gap to .030. If anyone has the bulletin that explains the change, I'd appreciate having a copy.

The latest manuals hanging in the stores have a QL82YC plug recommendation. I have heard the usage of both types.
I have used the QL82YC, but I keep reading about the 77JC4's.

Do you know the difference between these two plugs.

Is either one worse than the other to use? "
