aq151 cooling ports on intake manifold

Hello,

My mechanic and I were wondering if any of the Volvo experts on aq151s might know why there is a freeze plug that blocks the circulation of coolant to the intake manifold. The plug is in the head...the pictures tell the story pretty good.

He suggested that we drill a small hole in the freeze plug to allow the coolant passage to fill with water so air is not captured in in that chamber.

does anyone know why it is blocked and if unplugging it will help this older engine to run better or not.

Thanks in advance....JSOcean

I don't think you would need warming (not cooling) the intake manifold unless you plan to run your boat in the Arctic in the middle of winter. Personally, I would leave the plug where and the way it is and don't worry about a few air bubbles trapped there, I'm sure they will find their way out.
