Hard battery wires?

While doing some maitenance noticed one of my positive battery cables felt hard. Most of the others still seem relatively pliable. What causes this and should be replaced?
 
Could be internally corroded, you may have to cut a short section off the end to inspect or may have heated up at one time. Check the insulation for discoloration.
 
Try putting the cable to your ear and gently bending it. If you hear a lot of little crinkling noises, it's getting old...Bob
