Will commander tachometer from faria work on a Johnson 1999 250hp

I have a 1999 Johnson 250 and was wondering if this tach will work with this engine?

That series (commander) seems only to operate with engine with an ECM/ECU.
That limits to Fichts and E-tech engines.
The 'old' carbed ones have to stick with the old instruments taking pulses from the charging system only.
