" On each side of my intake manifold at the center there are openings in the head that are horseshoe shaped. Should these be open? If not how should I seal them? I am noticing oil in them after a good cruise. Engine year is 1988 318, rebuilt,240hp. "

" Dennis, I had a Chrysler 440 with what I think were the same openings. They are passages for hot air off the engine to actuate the auto choke. If you have elec or manual choke these do not come into play. If you have any great amount of oil after a long run it may be the valley cover gasket leaking. To replace this you need to rempove intake man and under that is a sheetmetal valley cover. remove that and replace gasket. If it is not leaking a lot, just keep a diaper under the engine and replace during seasonal haul out. Good luck Kim "
