1979 35hp evinrude won't Idle

79 35hp evinrude won't Idle, carb was cleaned due to no gas getting to bowl and would not start, plenty gas now, will start , but dies out seconds later, like it ran out of gas, plenty of fuel pressure, adjusting slow needle makes no difference, rechecked float adjustments, replaced gas with new, arms aint long enough to operate key and check spark in back of boat, swith from battery to key switch on solenoid maybe? what else to look at?

You need to preform a compression and spark test, the spark should jump a 7/16" air gap and be bright blue. It sounds like you have fuel to the carbs, but you could still have internal problems because the low speed jets will not change engine operation, the engine should stall with the jets turned all the way in.

I was reading your mind, just checked comp both 1 & 2 = 122, sparks looks good, and it is a new fuel pump. dont have anything to measure fuel pressure, but it squirts out if I go to remove the outlet hose to the carb so pressure is there, tested carb upside down wont pas air, rightside up air will flow into the carb from fuel inlet
