Having side to side play in copper coolant tube normal?

Hello All, I am in the process of swapping a jet drive back to a gearcase. After removing the jet drive I noticed the copper coolant tube has some play in it. It doesn't move up and down but it moves side to side probably an inch. Does this mean the grommet is shot or does it normally move a little for alignment purposes. I installed the gearcase and ran it with some muffs. I had good water flow out of the tell tale on back of the motor. Thanks much.
 
You will have some play in the water tube, it is mounted in a rubber grommet at the top. When you put it in the water look at the tell-tale, running on the muffs will mask a defective water pump because the water pressure will bypass the pump.
