Best type of sealer to use on engine mount lag bolts

Hi Guys,

I have seen many engine mount lag bolts that no longer tighten up due to rotted coring in either the stringers or the engine boxes. I have often wondered if lack of or incorrect sealer on the lag bolts has contributed to this condition. What do you recommend for a sealer to use on these bolts?

I've never seen any recommendations for a sealer on the lag bolts. With the motor mount eye sitting over the hole, I'd think you would be hard pressed to get a thorough coating of any thickness. I think the trick is to just keep the water away from them. All the lag bolt issues on our boat have been from them breaking off, usually flush.
