wheel bearing buddys

This is for my boat trailer, I have bearing buddys on a trailer I just bought. I need to replace the bearings but the old bearing buddys do not knock off with a rubber mallet. Can someone give me advice on how to get them off in reusable shape?
 
Keep at it with the mallet. Hit it as far out on the buddy as you can. Tap down then up or side to side. Maybe try a bigger mallet. Or a block of wood and use a small sledge hammer. Or destroy the buddies and go with a plain cap.
 
I always use a hammer with a block of wood, keep tapping and turning the wheel, they eventually come off.
