Mechanical advance springs 1988 5.7

"88 AQ271C. (GM 5.7 with Prestolite electronic ign.)

While checking distributor, noticed that the two centrifugal advance springs appear to be of different

strength.

Is this correct? two stage advance?

John, yes, this is correct........., and yes, sort of, kind of, maybe!
If the curve that the Prestolite offers is not linear, then you may see two different looking springs.
Be very careful if you plan on changing or replacing these.... it takes very little to change the curve.
If considering a replacement, the Mallory YLM 624 AV is a great choice for this engine, IMO.
