generator problem

I realize that this isn't a crusader problem but always impressed with the smarts on this forum. I've got a Kohler 6.5 kW genset that starts up and runs for a 15 or 20 seconds and then the carburetor floods and it stalls. It's almost as if the float valve is stuck open. Interestingly enough I have a second unit that I removed the Carb from and exchanged with the first unit and get the same result. If I pull the connector off of the fuel pump the genset will run for a couple of minutes until it runs out of gas in the Carb.
Any thoughts from the engine experts?

Thanks for your assistance.

Tom.

Thanks Mark. I would agree with this, but I wouldn't understand how the electric fuel pump would be delivering more pressure than before. Do these have regulators built into them?

if there's an electric pump, a pressure regulation device is highly likely. I can't say as I haven't messed with any of the 'newer' generators. Could be integral (like an oil pump) or external. Either way, assuming both carbs were functional, something has changed and I'd start with a gauge.
