Timing/Dwell for LM318

Good morning, all - I've got a 1973 Luhrs 25 Sportfisherman with an LM318. I see from earlier posts that the timing looks to be 5 degrees BTDC, which side depending on rotation, but I'm wondering about what to set the dwell to. Any thoughts/info?

For background, you may recall my posts over the winter asking for help determining whether the engine was a 360 or a 318. We (the mechanics at the boatyard where I work) just put a reman Edelbrock 1409 in, and while it ran well for them at the mooring, when I took it out for a run the carb began to sputter and the engine was running rough.

I believe it's 28-32 deg. Perhaps someone can confirm. Did you check what it's at now?

Somewhere around 30 deg is good..the question is why no electronic ignition ??

Good question. I have a Mallory unit new in the box, came with the boat when we bought it two seasons ago. Haven't gotten around to installing it yet, prob. a winter project...
