Penta Overheating - A New Twist ??

Hello all
First off, I am a lousy mechanic and a newbie boater who has almost no worthwhile input to this forum. Didn't even consider registering for that fact.

However, I too have an old Penta AQ131 that was overheating.
I followed as many ideas in this forum that I was comfy to try and none of them worked for me so I brought it into the shop and they solved it for me.

Their stated solution was: "your motor was very badly out of time". I would never have considered this as a possible cause. They adjusted the distributor, charged me $235!, and the overheating is solved. My boat is also running much smoother, starting better, and running very sweet now.

Nowhere in the suggested fixes did I see "out of time" as a possible reason for overheating,,,,,,so I mention it to you all. Hopefully this will help someone?? I don't know, but there it is.

And a big Thank You to all of those who post here and share solutions.

Happy Boating!!
