Hi,

I will appreciate some help to find alternatives for my outboard stator, which seems to be dead.

Motor details :

Mariner Marathon 40 HP, 2 Cyl, 2 Stroke, year:1998, S/N 0G600358

From MercuryPartExpress, it says that my stator P/N is 398-832074A11, checking my current one is a 398-832074A3.

also, while reviewing other sites, I see a reference to 398-832075A21.

So, I got into big confusion

. and I have the following questions:

- Is the 832075A21 compatible?
- Is there any CDI (or other brand) alternative?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Everytime there is a new "parts run" the end number (model run suffix) changes - so whether is's A3, A11 or A21 as long as the number "before" that is the same, you are getting the same part.

If there is a problem with a particular component (factory defect) it's just easier for Merc to track down the bad ones if they have different suffix's.

Anyhow, you can use the 398-832075A21 ($223) or 398-832074A11 (which would be the "direct" replacement - $220) from Merc or you can use CDI174-2075K1 from CDI/Rapier ($185 retail) - they will all work for you.

Should have added the 398-832075Axx were originally put on the 3 cylinder models and the 398-832074Axx were on the twins, but they both produce exactly the same power...

sorry to jump in ,problem with my stator not charging battery, engine runs fine,(merc 45-50)cant find the serial number, took the stator of and it has no yellow wires, and the stator looks as if it has been changed at some point, num is 398-5454A27 its for a manual start so another stator with this number, will it do.can get them with A26 at the end
