Disengage the shift cable at the motor.Shift by hand at the motor to see if the trouble is with your cable or motor.Good luck.

Drain the oil from the gearbox and look for metal bits.

i just got it an the guy had the whole top half been rebuilt an sit a few years an now this thanks again

You should get the bottom end off and see if it is the bottom or the powerhead that is seized.This seems pretty serious.If you cannot even shift it into neutral with the cable off,you should take it into a shop for an estimate.You might be able to get a bottom end fairly cheap.Good luck.

Read both of your posts. Very confusing. Is it just the lower unit that is locked up, or the whole engine? Does the powerhead (flywheel) turn?
