I have a 1985 50 hp johnson and when I go to put it into gear with the control box handle it seems to want to go but either the cables are too stretched out or something is preventing it from actually going in gear and staying in gear. I have alligned the adjustment screws on the throttle cables going to the motor to allow the least amount of needed pull from the control box to pull it into gear but it keeps slipping in and out of gear. The cables will pull it just enough to barely get it into gear and then it seems like it wants to go back out of gear. Is there a way that I can tighten up the throttle cables to allow for easier gear transition, or would it be beneficial to check out something with the actual engagement of the gears themselves. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
