Trim to tilt cylinder dead spot? 1972 70hp

Got a '72, 70 hp motor with tilt/trim that seems to be working fine except that the transition from trim to tilt and vice versa, takes about 1 minute of the pump running before the engine will start moving again.

So whether going up or down there's a long delay between tilt,.......... and, wait for it, ...... c'mon battery, don't quit now,........... trim.

Other than that, it seems to work excellent. Maybe I need to keep running it up and down and filling with fluid?

Re: Trim to tilt cylinder dead spot?

are you sure it does it in the up direction? It is fairly common in the down direction if the trim cylinder sleeve, trim strike plate, or trim piston centering ring are worn out. But this probblem does not cause any delay in the upstroke.
