2003 2 stroke 3.5 hp oil change problem

I have a 2003 Nissan 3.5b2. Pulled the top oil plug in the lower unit--much white salt / corrosion. Cleaned out, but the passage is still blocked. Pulled the lower plug, drained oil (looked dark but not "choc milk"). Dropped lower unit, pulled water pump top off--need a new impeller. Now have 2 problems: 1) can't get the lower half of the water pump housing off, and 2) can't figure out how to get to / unblock the top oil hole for the lower unit. I suspect the problems are related--is there a bearing in there that has shifted?

It's just clogged up.

Yep. the lower pump housing is a tight fit, and involves the driveshaft bearing. Seldom needs to come apart. Likely just a clogged-up vent hole.
