96 Mastercraft - Chevy 350 Engine

Mike:

they were your photos; I just added a couple words.

ECU suspect? Yes, but ONLY if it controls the timing advance function. The easiest way is to determine if the 4 pin connector on the Module, in the Distributor, goes to the ECU.

Your system is one of the early (first generation) ECU-based systems and not everybody did things the same way.

guess by your question that you couldn't find any issue testing the pickup coil?

One other question - have you verified the rotor spins when the engine is cranked over? if it doesn't, all parts may test fine but the spark is never triggered. Yes, you will have to keep the cap OFF the distributor. It would be good to ground the coil lead or unplug the coil's two 2-pin connectors.
