I own a 1991 cruiser with 5.7 Mercruiser and V drives. This past weekend I was camping on a sand island. Shortly after pulling myself off the island my starboard engine overheated. I assume I sucked some sand into the impeller of the seawater pump. What parts and tools do I need to make the repair myself? My raw water system runs through seacocks in the hull, then through a strainer, through the V drive and then to the engine.

One of the first things your going to need is a service manual from mercruiser, And it looks like your going to need service manual part number 90-816463 That covers engines - GM V8 (NO HIGH PERF) - SERVICE MANUAL #15

Your also going to need a new impeller at the very least and possibly a new impeller housing.

Here is a link to your sea water pump impeller.

And here is a link to all your engine parts for you to get familiar with.

(FYI) You also posted this in the wrong forum area, This is the mercury outboard forum and the mercruiser / Inboard forums is going to be on down the list a few more, Out on the main page.;):)

PS, if you could, Could you post your engine serial number so that I can confirm that I gave you the correct information here instead of me taking a guess like i did here? Thanks.:)
