Mariner 40E 6E9L409502 What is the year?

I bought a 24' pontoon with a 40e mariner on it.
Having some problems.The linkage that goes to the timing was broke and not sure of the proper adjustment.
I have been adjusting and testing. Runs ok butt does not run at top end. dont know WOT rpms .
Also need a manual. So looking for the proper year to get the right manual.

That is a 1983, "C" model, Yamaha built (for Merc).

WOT range is 4500-5500 so I would shoot for 5200 (where it develops it's full 40 horses - more than that and the power actually falls off).

I am not aware of a factory service manual for the Yami/Mariners but Seloc's "Mariner Outboard, 1&2 Cylinder 1977-1989" which sells for about 35 bucks does an excellent job of covering this particular model...
