Outdrive dipstick

Hi, my outdrive is a 280, can't for the life of me shift the dipstick / filler plug. I'm concerned I'm going to shear it off if I use any more force - is this likely?

Cheers
Robin

Take a large Channel Lock pliers to the dip stick. Forget the screwdriver completely, even at the cost of scaring the top of the stick some.

Secondly, the 280 Fill Plug is just above the shift mechanism.
You'll need two new O-rings, and one red phenolic gasket for the fill plug when changing gear oil.

Keep in mind that this drive (with a single prop) does not use heavy gear oil!

Thanks Rick, you are no doubt confirming that this will not shear!
I didn't realise that the fill plug was by the shift, I thought you had to fill through the dipstick hole

Never had a dipstick I couldn't get out in 31 years. Vise grips or the channel locks are the VP mechanics freinds. The drain plugs lose the battle with a large flatblade socket on the hammer impact thingy. The nice flat bolt of the four that hold the topn cover on is also an add oil bolt, watch for the o-ring. 3/4 the way up the flat part of the dipstick for oil level.
