1997 merc 115 hp radio/cd cuts out

my radio/cd player on pontoon boat works fine w/ engine off or rpm over 2000. At lower rpm it always cuts in/out. there is no static. only/always happens at low speeds. whats going on. thanks.

Seriously, sounds like you simply have a bad connection somewhere. The vibration at idle/just off idle may be enough to cause the intermittent problem.

If it's connected to the battery then the charging system on the motor will have no effect on the power to the radio (although if it was toast the battery would eventually die).

Trace the wires from the unit all the way back to the battery and look for a bad/broken connection.

Alternately, disconnect the radio and use a volt meter to see if a power loss is occuring through your harness - there is a chance that something inside the unit has gone "flooey"....
