1990 Mariner 60 hp - Cutting out

My 1990 Mariner 60 3 cylinder two stroke keeps cutting out. Starts and runs perfectly for between 1 minute and 1 hour then fails and refuses to start. Left overnight it will fire up and run again but the problem re-occurs every time. I have changed the cdi unit, cleaned out petrol lines but problem remains. Anyone have any ideas? Cheers.

Bad trigger or charging coil? You can have a Merc tech check it out with a DVA meter.

Yes, sounds like a cracked bobbin in one of those components that is losing continuity when it heats up (and the copper winding expands).

Tell the tester to use the hair dryer technique to simulate a warm engine...
