Alpha 1 Tilt/Trim only moves 6 inches???? Any ideas??

Hi guys, i have just recently bough a SeaRay with a mercruiser inboard and Alpha 1 Leg, i went down last weekend only to find that the UP trim button does not work (aparrently it won't though till the leg is down??), and the leg will only go down about 5 or 6 inches then stops?? The pump and every thing works fine but will not go any further? Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be? Goes up on trailer switch and down with tilt switch all day long, just no further than 5 or 6 inches? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

ROund plastic switch on the left side of outdrive (looking at it from the back of the boat)

That is the trim LIMIT switch. It is a rotary switch, ON/OFF. there is two phillips screws, loosen and twist to adjust.

The toggle switch (trim) is only susposed to raise the outdrive Aproximatly 3 to 3 1/2 inches (measured at trim ram extension) from all the way down and then stop. That is about the useable range of raising the drive when under power before it starts to cavitate.

If the drive needs to be raised higher you now use the TRAILER button........
