I made a basic error when taking my boat out of storage. I crossed the cables at the battery terminals momentarily, while attempting to raise my engine. Since then, my engine won't charge the battery, the tach is intermittent. I would prefer to service the boat myself. Based upon the my report, any ideas as to what charging system component is directly effected ? I am also good with a multi-meter for diagnostics.

The rectifer/regulator module is damaged. Any DVOM wil work, but in your case I think you can just go ahead and replace that module.

Yes, agree - and don't run the motor until you have either confirmed the rectifier/regulator is OK or it's replaced.

If it "not there" or toasted the power the stator is trying to send it can (back up) and fry the stator which can add a couple hundred bucks (in parts) to the repair bill...
