I just finished lower shift cable install with mercruiser cable kit.
while cleaning up I found a small black bushing in the parts bag.
does anyone know what this part is? And if it goes on my boat or a newer model. I'm working on a 77 model pre alpha
 
That plastic part goes into the transom assembly, It is not critical and CAN be left out.

Sometimes it does not get pushed out and may still be there.

No issues just toss it........
