Chris craft 251 Catalina Express 1976 305 K , ? what rotation is the rotor moving. clockwise or counterwise ?? Trans is in right rotation..

Most single engines turn clockwise (right hand) propellers. Check the prop, the engine should turn the same way. The exception being 1.91-1 reduction velvet drives.

Thanks I trying to rebuilt this old boat , I brought it Aug. 1992 ;used it till 2005 ran it out of oil .. sat till this summer .installing 350 in it now.. JLT

Another way to tell is when you get to the timing chain. If it has a chain with 2 gears it is automotive rotation. If it just has 2 large gears it is opposite rotation.

I assume that you are referring to the ignition distributor rotor in a 305 SBC.... correct?
Since all of these engine oil pumps rotate standard, all ignition distributors rotate standard...... I.E., Clockwise if viewing down on it.

As for engine rotation...... Here is a Cut/Paste from a recent thread on similar question:

Just an FYI here....... most single engine boats are equipped with a Standard LH (CCW) rotation engine.
Std LH Rotation is Counter-Clockwise.
These are most commonly viewed from the Flywheel End when determining rotation!

RH, or Reverse Rotation, or CW rotation...., is also determined from viewing the flywheel end.

Here are several sources of information regarding rotation.
