I am putting back the power steering components in an AQ271A and am curious about the fluid required.
Do I use ATF or power steering fluid. The current fluid has a red tint to it and I would guess it is ATF but want to be sure.
Also do I need to prime the actuator in some manner?

ATF Type F... per my circa 1981 Volvo installation manual..(Pub7775003).... My newer manual circa 1984, Pub 3810035, says to use the same oil as the engine or ATF... so, ATF appears to be the "universal" one.

Per manual...to fill:
"Fill tank with <fluid> until the level stabilizes itself at the upper mark.
Start the engine and run at idle (the pump must not run dry) without turning the wheel, while continuing to add oil. Stop the engine and screw on the top cover when the fluid has stabilized at the upper mark and the oil is clear ..... with engine running, check that the <drive turns fully both ways> ... return the wheel to center position. Check oil level and top off if necessary. Note: oil level varies with steering movement."
