Sea Star Helm seal replacement

lifts right out once you remove the retainer. My retainer (older unit) left a bit to be desired so we made a new one from some brass stock. Also, we used a "polypacks" seal from a hyraulic shop...think i got 6 for what the OEM part was priced at.

Thanks Mark...I appreciate your help...the "polypacks" seals are a good idea...I had to buy an entire rebuild kit as they didn't sell the seal separately and I needed it quickly...The kit was $40.00 and included what I needed and about 10 internal o-rings which I will keep just in case I need to rebuild the entire unit...Thanks again...Bob

I'm sure polypacks is somebody's brand name (like a xerox copier) but all the hydraulic shops down here knew what they were. I'd describe them more like a quad-ring (vs a plain o-ring).

If i remember right, getting the old steering wheel off was the ugliest part. like most hydraulic things, keeping it all keep will let it work the first time.
