Honda 90 runs great until you put it in gear

I have a Honda 90 that runs fine until it is put in gear, then sputters and sputs and dies. Carborator has been rebuilt twice. Replaced all the fuel lines. and 3 new fuel filters. Once you can get past it coughing and weezing runs great until you slow down or stop. Can take 30 seconds or 30 minutes to get back up to speed. Have put in fuel additives and only buy the best fuel. Fuel pump is next unless something else to try - been fighting this for 2 years now...

It is probably not your fuel pump, since you said it seems to run ok at higher speeds. Although, many a customer have said that to me with symptoms like this and one cylinder was not firing.

To eliminate the fuel pump from the mix, have someone squeeze the fuel bulb as the problem is occurring. That will supplement the action of the fuel pump.. If no change...probably not the pump.

Check your fuel to be sure there is no water or cantaminants in it.

Check compression to make sure the cylinders are ok.

Your valve clearances could be out of adjustment.

If all the above is ok, then whoever did your carbs either missed the idle and transition circuits and/or did not vacuum balance the carbs.

Any one or all of the above could be causing your problem.
