2004 Mercury 50hp 4 Stroke Problem

Hey guys, we have a 2004 Mercury 50hp 4 stroke outboard motor that isnt working right. On opener (saturday) we were driving along at as fast as it would go (about 30mph) when we hit a large wave, jumped up fairly high, and when we hit the water, the motor made a funny sound, and stopped working. Now it will only hit about 8mph. You can obvioulsy tell its only running on 3 of the 4 cylinders. Its idles on all 4, or atleast it sounds like it. The same thing happened 2 years ago, same place. But about 1 month later, while running in on a different lake at the top speed (8mph) it popped, and took off back to the normal 30mph. My dad cleaned the carbs, but it doesnt change anything. Anyone have an ideas?

Loose ignition wire maybe.

Spend 35 bucks for a Seloc's manual and start trouble shooting...
