Default gas/oil mixture 48 hp SPL Johnson 1996

I just bought a 1996 Grumman with a 48 hp SPL Johnson outboard motor. The gas has been sitting in the tank for about 3 years. My uncle told me that I needed to mix oil with the gas and he thought it was a 50:1 ratio. Can anyone out there confirm this?

If gas has been sitting in it for 3 years...first thing you need to do is drain the tank....and prolly have carbs cleaned before you attempt to start it

I agree clean out all old fuel and mix fresh.

Perhaps worth then trying but be prepared to have to clean the carbs.

You do not state the model number or the age but all Johnson and Evinrude engines from 1964 onwards run on 50:1 using a TCW3 2 stroke outboard engine oil.
