Adding electric start to a 1980 15 hp Evinrude

I have a 1980? Evinrude Model E15RCCS.

How difficult and expensive would adding a starter to this motor be? Also, what other parts will I need besides the starter (bracket, wireing harness, etc.)?

Is this worth the cost and hassle, or should I sell this motor and buy one with a starter already on it.

Re: Adding electric start to a 15hp Evinrude

That is a 1988 model (CC= 88)

If its is still available the electric start kit is part number 0173344

It includes the starter motor, a different bypass cover ( because that's what the motor mounts onto) and a different flywheel ( one with a ring gear on for the starter motor to engage) and all the electrical wiring and other bits and pieces.
(does not appear to need a solenoid though)

Sorry cannot tell you the price or availability. ... the usual parts website does not seem to be available at the moment.

The price will frighten you I expect!

PS. I notice that the electric start models normally have a different fuel pump ... don't know why that is but presumably not essential
