Volvo penta aq231a starting problems

Hello all...just tried to start my aq231a for the first time this season and found that when I cranked the engine the belt did not turn and it made a kind of a whining sound instead of a cranking sound...any ideas? thanks.
 
If the crankshaft pulley is turning, then the belt probably has a few teeth stripped and yo will need to replace it. If the crankshaft is not turning and the starter is turning, then you will have to look at the starter pinion first (Bendix mechanism seized or solenoid problems).
