1965 johnson 5hp broken skeg

I have a 1 in approx piece broke off the tip of the skeg. It looks like someone droped it hard and broke it. It looks like a pretty light duty set up. Is there a simple fix for this. I do not have the broken piece.
 
If your in a hurry Bass Pro Shops has a clamp on skeg repair kit.
I saw it on the shelf on my last walk thru the store. I didn't take
a close look, just tucked it away in my mind.
