Raw water pumps both leaking

I started my engine's today for the first time since winterizing. Both have a pretty good drip from the bearing side of the raw water pump. It's a 2002 5.7 ho crusader captains choice not sure if they have ever been changed ( i'm the second owner) could sitting over the winter cause this or maybe just wear and tear?? does anybody know the replacement part number or best place to purchase rebuild kits or new pumps?

Run 'em for a while and see it the dripping stops. It might. If not, it's rebuld time. Mine are scheduled for that as well, seeing they're 25 years old!

Billy, these pumps, regardless of brand, will usually have either a ceramic seal, or rubber lip seal, behind the impeller cavity.
Jeff's idea about them stopping may be true... give it a whirl!

If not, and if no scaring/scoring at either thrust surface (or at the impeller cam)......, then new seals can be installed.

Could have been there for a while, too.

my experience says the seal is shot and probably has shortened the bearing life if it has been leaking for a while. If the Fast Jeff technique fails to provide the remedy, I'd plan on pulling the pump and overhauling it.

thanks guy's..... i have to take a 45 minute run this weekend so i'll check it out after running up river. I was looking into pricing new ones annd came up with pricing from $229 up to $450 sounds like a big price jump to me. the lower price was a sherwood and higher price was jabsco. Any thoughts on the two pumps?
