Will this 1995 48 hp powerhead fit on my 50 hp lower unit?

:confused: I have a 1995 50 HP Johnson,Model # J50TLE0D, Serial # G03870912 that is knocking.
I found what is supposed to be a 1995 48 hp?
Model # G04066820, Serial # E48ESLEDC that runs great, lower unit is bad.
Can anyone tell me if his powerhead will fit on mine ,or, will my lower unit fit on his? I hate to buy it then have 2 broke outboards.

I assume there is some sort of gasket between the two halfs. What would you call that or where could I go to look at a breakdown of the parts. If they both use the same gasket it should fit?
And what would be better: take his powerhead and drop on top, since my motor is still on the boat, or pull my lower unit and put on his then hang onto my boat?

It is all up to you.
Parts lists you find at evinrude.com.
Doing such a job, I would at least have changed impeller and thermostat at the same time, and most likely done a proper carb cleaning.

Yep, and it's less work to change the lower unit than it is to change the powerhead.
