1968 18 hp evinrude broken drive shaft

I need to know how to get the drive shaft free from the engine,the modle #18802A 18hp. thanks. netmaker.

Have you removed all of the retaining bolts and disconnctd the shift linkage? If so, the top driveshaft splines are frozen within the crankshaft splines.

Best procedure is to yank the driveshaft thru the lower unit water pump, then grab the driveshaft with vice grips in some non bearing area and attempt to pound it off with a hammer.

remove the powerhead - then it will be easy to remove.
