What year is my Merc motor

Without the horsepower I can't say absolutely for sure because it's not really a "serial" number, it's just a production number that contains no usable information.

But the majority of the numbers in that range came off the assembly line in 1994..
 
Thanks boat-tech,It is a 40 w/t&tilt, sorry I didn't put that in original post. now I can order some parts

What if I don't have a serial no. plate, is there some other place on the engine where I can find the serial no.?

motor number is OB136380 I think it is a 40 horse but the cawling says 50 in small wrighting, not sure.
